The Cedarville Yellow Jackets improved to 5-2 on the season defeating the Golden Eagles 3-2 on a warm fall afternoon on the campus of Cornerstone University. Cedarville scored the first two goals of the game in the 19th minute and 29th minute. James Twinem for Cedarville scored the first goal and Eric Newman scored on a header off a Scott Roseberg corner kick to take a 2-0 lead. Cornerstone's Nic Tolsma scored at the 41st minute mark and was assisted by Matt Osorio. Matt Osorio then scored on a free kick in the 42nd minute to tie the game at the half 2-2.
Goalkeeper Kyle Breckan had 7 saves on the day and Kevin Bender of Cedarville had 6. The Yellow Jackets had 16 shots and 8 in the second half to CU's 12 and 7 in the second half. Matt Niemiec scored the goal winner in the 69th minute on a Steve Ellis assist. CU falls to 2-5-1 on the season. They will host Concordia University on Saturday, September 25 in a non-conference match-up at noon. All proceeds to Saturday's game will go directly to World Vision to purchase mosquito netting for children and their families in Sub-Saharan Africa in an effort to protect them from malaria.
