GRAND RAPIDS (9/18) An early morning thunderstorm followed by a 5k race with a field of 195 women left the course at the Gainey Athletic Complex on the Calvin College campus a bit soft and muddy in a few spots as the fifteen-team men's 8,000 meter event got underway.

Cornerstone's Zach Ripley and Alex Green went right to the front, leading the field through the mile in 4:43 and 4:45. Ripley continued to lead until near the three mile mark when he had to withdraw due to a temporary physical concern.

Green continued to race well, taking fourth in 25:37. Jared Courtright ran a :41 personal best to place 19^th in 26:29 followed closely by Cody Risch in 25^th at 26:35. Peter Kaijala (27:57 / 81^st) and Kris Shear (28:02 / 88^th) gave Cornerstone its team score of 168 and fifth place finish.

Host, Calvin won with 31 points followed by Aquinas at 71.
