(Grand Rapids, Mich.) The volleyball team dropped two matches to nationally ranked local rivals Calvin and Hope College. CU opened the day vs. #9 Calvin College. The Knights defense held CU to .130 hitting percentage. Jodi Grandholm led the team with 6 kills. Abby Miedema added a team high 7 digs and Erin Greenwood dished out 12 assists. Calvin won in 3 straight games 25-19, 25-17 and 25-23. 

The day did not get any easier as CU took on #4 Hope College. CU dropped the first game in a hard fought battle 26-24. The Golden Eagles notched 15 team kills and hit .300. Hope's defense clamped down and held CU to .163 and .132 in the second and third games and won both 25-18, 25-19. Alicia TerHaar and Becky Albrecht led the team with 7 kills each. Erin Greenwood had 15 assists and Tamara Bethke added 11. CU falls to 2-4 on the season while Hope and Calvin won both of their matches on the day to start the season 2-0.

The Golden Eagles will take on Mount Union and Theil College at the DeVos Fieldhouse on Saturday, September 4^th at 10am and noon.
