Golden Eagles - Wed, Aug. 18, 2010
Bloomington, Ind.-- Liberty University has hired CU alumni, Derek Scott as their new men's distance coach for Cross Country and Track & Field.  Scott, who was the 1500 meter NAIA National Champion in 2007 and a ten-time All-American for the Golden Eagles joins the Flames' coaching staff after being interviewed earlier this week.
"I'm excited to start working with the guys," said Scott. Speaking of the 2010 Cross Country team Derek said, "We're good with our top four, and we're looking for who will be our fifth man." The Flames return four All-Conference runners from their 2009 Big South Conference Championship team, including 2009 All-American Evans Kigen and the 2009 NCAA National Champion, Sam Chelanga.

"What a great way for Derek to finish a fantastic year," said Cornerstone Cross Country and Track & Field Coach, Rod Wortley. "After winning the Puma mile at the Mt. Sac Invitational in April, competing in Jamaica and Europe throughout the summer, this is a good next step for him. I am confident he will do well at Liberty.

Scott says he intends to continue his training as he moves from Bloomington, Ind. to Lynchburg, VA.
