(Livonia, Mich.) The Golden Eagles did something that only one other conference team has done so this season. Defeat the Crusaders in softball. Madonna entered the double header with a 20-2 record with only their only two losses being splits to Davenport. The Crusaders won the first game 12-0 behind the pitching of league leading (24-3) Jess Irwin. Irwin came into the game with a 1.56 ERA and lowered it with the no-hitter and a shutout. Jessica Kuhlman was the only Golden Eagle to get on base drawing walks in both the first and fourth innings.

Cornerstone bounced back with a huge win in Game 2 that secured them a spot in the WHAC Tournament on May 6-7. Victoria Risenhoover singled and stole 2nd base to start the third inning. Mandee Michielsen doubled to right center to score Risenhoover. Beth Wyckoff singled to knock in Michielsen and then advanced to second on a throwing error. Jessica Kuhlman doubled to left center to bring in Wyckoff to make it 3-0. The Crusaders brought Jess Irwin back in the game and she struck out the side to stop the bleeding. The Crusaders scored two run with two outs in the seventh but Gruppen got Tara LeMiza to foul out to third with runners on the corners to secure the victory. Cornerstone improves to 8-18 in the WHAC. The Golden Eagles will conclude regular season play tomorrow with a double header at UM-Dearborn.
