(Grand Rapids, Mich.) The Golden Eagles enter today's games in 7th place in the WHAC just one game back of Siena Heights and on the outside looking in for a spot in the WHAC playoffs. They really needed to win both of these game and they accomplished that with a 5-4 come from behind victory in Game 1 and a 4-2 win in Game 2 against Concordia.
Cornerstone went down 4-1 early in Game 1 but they scored 2 runs in the 4th and 2 runs in the 7th for a big comeback 5-4 win. Rachel did most of the damage from the plate for Cornerstone. Gruppen went 2 for 3 with 3 RBI's and 1 run scored for the Golden Eagles. Gruppen had a walk off double down the line to score Victoria Risenhoover and Kathy DeYoung for the win. Madison Bucilla picked up the win for the Golden Eagles.
Cornerstone scored early and held on late in Game 2 with a 4-2 win. Jessica Kuhlman went 2 for 4 with an RBI and 2 runs scored to lead the Golden Eagles attack. Melanie Creager went 2 for 2 with an RBI single in the second inning to score Kuhlman to give Cornerstone a 4-0 advantage. Kaycee Kuiper would scatter 6 hits to pick up her 6th win of the season for the Golden Eagles. Cornerstone improved to 6-14 in the WHAC and moved past Siena Height (5-15) into the last playoff spot in the tournament. The Golden Eagles face Siena Heights tomorrow at noon in a couple of crucial games with the last playoff spot still hanging in the balance.
