(Grand Rapids, Mich.) The Golden Eagles wrapped the series up with Aquinas and unfortunately came away with a 0-4 record. Cornerstone lost two more to the Saints on Wednesday, April 7, but the Golden Eagles did not go down without a fight. In the first game of the double header it was the Saints who got on the board scoring one run in the second and adding two more in the third to take a 3-0 lead heading into the fourth. Madison Bucilla doubled to right center scoring Jessica Kuhlman to cut the lead to 2. The Golden Eagles held the Saints scoreless in the fifth. Elayna Citko singled to right field scoring Victoria Risenhoover who got on base after an error. Cornerstone was unable to tie it up and finished the game with a 2-3 loss to Aquinas. Kaycee Kuiper took the loss allowing 4 hits and striking out 1 in 24 at bats.
The Golden Eagles got on the board on a Kuhlman homerun in the top of the first. The Saints however, responded with 3 runs in the bottom of the first. The Saints added one more run in the bottom of the third to take a 4-1 lead. Cornerstone scored two runs in the top of the fourth. Rachel Gruppen singled and scored Tahni Bruno. Kuhlman scored an unearned run to close out the inning and cut the lead to 3-4. Both teams scored one more run in the 7th to close the game with a 5-4 win for the Saints. The Golden Eagles fall to 4-8 in the WHAC and 7-24 overall while the Saints improve to 8-4 in the WHAC and 20-13 overall. The Golden Eagles will take on the Davenport Panthers at the Christian Reformed Recreation Center on Friday, April 16.
