(Riverside, Calif.)The Golden Eagles kicked off their 2010campaign on Thursday eveningagainst California Baptist, dropping games tothe 2009 NAIAnational champions 13-0 and 8-0. The Lancers finished lastyear with a record of 61-5 and came into today's contestwith a 19-0 overallmark for the season thus far as the Golden Eagles were playing outside for the first time this spring.
Cal Baptist was tabbed No. 1 in last month's NAIA National PreseasonPoll and wasted no timedemonstrating why as they jumped out to an 11-0 lead after two inningscruisingto a 13-0 mercy victory in game one. The Golden Eagles only managed one hit in the outing as Mandee Michielsen's double in the fourth ended the no-hitter for the Lancers.
In the night game, the CU women made adjustments and were able to push the game for five plus innings before falling once again in a shortened contest 8-0.Elayna Citko got things going early in game two as she recorded her firstcollegiate hitto lead off the attack in inning one. Tahni Bruno then reached on a fielder's choice to the first basemen to put two runners on. Both runners advanceda Michielsen sacrifice buntbut the Golden Eagles were unable to translate their efforts into runs.Cornerstone finished with two hits in the game as Bruno added a single in the third inning.The Golden Eaglesheld the Lancers to one run or less in four different innings in game two as Dinah Gruppen struck out three from the mound after coming in as relief. Cornerstone will continue action tomorrow as they take on the Cougars of Azusa Pacific. Game one is scheduled to start at 2:00pm PST.
