Cornerstone Men's Tennis teams kicked off the season on Wednesday with a trip to Goshen College.
CU started strong, sweeping the doubles. It seemed in singles there were a few first match jitters, as the quality of play was a little up and down, but nonetheless, Cornerstone took 4 out of the 6 singles matches to seal the 7-2 win. Winning in singles was Elijah Yi at #1 singles, Sam Ottosen at #2 singles, Austin Hendrick at #5 singles, and Andrew Son at #6 singles. It was the first collegiate win for freshmen Hendrick & Ottosen, who picked up wins in both singles & doubles. Said Coach Erickson on the win: "We definitely had some first match jitters, and singles play was a little shaky, but I was very pleased with the way we came out and played aggressive doubles. Goshen has a solid team, and to leave with a convincing win, knowing we didn't play anywhere near our best tennis, is a good feeling. It's a good way to start the season, but we have a lot to work on as we move forward."
Cornerstone returns to action on Saturday September 6 with a trip to Fort Wayne, IN to play St. Francis & Huntington.
