Wayland's Dilon Aten Signs Early with Mens Basketball

The Cornerstone University Mens Basketball future remains bright with the signing of its first recruit for the 2015 class.  Dilon Aten, a 6-1 point guard, is the lastest player from Wayland-Union High School to come to CU and play for the Golden Eagles.  He follows former WUHS stars Wes Hudson, Justin Pepper and Alex Lyle.

Aten, a Bank Hoops 1st Team All-State performer in 2014, has been on the Wildcat varsity team since he was a freshman.  As a frosh, he averaged 8.6 PPG, 2.5 RPG and 2.7 APG   and was selected to the All-County 1st Team.

During his sophomore campaign, Aten was once again named to the All-County 1st Team while averaging 13.4 PPG.  The 1st Team OK Gold selection also averaged 3.7 APG and grabbed 3.4 RPG.  Aten was named to several postseason teams that season, including Bank Hoops All-State Honorable Mention and All-Area Honorable Mention.  He also had a team-high 2.1 steals/game and recorded the 7th best free throw percentage in Michigan with a 87% accuracy from the line.

Aten's numbers continued to soar during his junior season.  He averaged a team-high 19.2 PPG while handing out almost 6 assists/game. Aten led his team to District and Regional titles before his Wildcats were knocked out of the Class B state tournament in the Quarterfinals.  Post-season accalades continued to stack up for Aten.  The Wildcat's team captain earned All-County honors for the third consecutive year.  Besides being named to the Bank Hoops All-State 1st Team, Aten was also selected to the Detroit Free Press All-State Team.  He was recognized by the Grand Rapids Press being selected to the All-Area 2nd Team.

Aten was an OK Gold 1st Team selection for the second consecutive time in '13-'14.  He scored a career-high 32 points versus Forest Hills Eastern on January 27.  Aten, who also recorded career-highs with nine assists, 12 rebounds and 10 steals last season, shot 81% from the line and 42% from behind the arc. He helped his team capture the Cornerstone University Holiday Tournament in December, earning MVP honors for his efforts.  Aten averaged career-highs in rebounds/game (6.8) and steals/game (4.2) last season while leading Wayland-Union to a 21-5 record.

Aten, who attended several Golden Eagle Basketball Camps while growing up, has scored  975 career points at WUHS during his first three seasons. The all-around player has also pulled down 300 career rebounds, dished out 285 career assists and recorded 189 career steals to date.

Says Coach Elders about Dilon:  "Dilon is a tremendous point guard.  We believe that he's the best lead guard in the area and also one of the best in the state.  He sees the court so well and does a terrific job of facilitating the offense.  Dilon is an unselfish player and has a knack for finding the open man at the right time.  He has excellent handles and can break down defenses with his dribble penetration.  Besides running the offense and setting up his teammates, Dilon can score points in a lot of different ways.  He's a complete player and he does so many things well, including rebounding and defending."

"As good as a player that Dilon is, he's equally as good a person.  He's a tremendous fit for both our university and basketball program.  We couldn't be more thrilled to have Dilon commit to us before his senior season begins."

Dilon on why he chose Cornerstone:  "I chose Cornerstone University because I felt it was the best opportunity for me to grow spiritually. I am excited about having an opportunity to build relationships that will last a life time. Cornerstone has a rich tradition of winning and I believe we will compete for National Championships each year."
