The Cornerstone men's basketball team added its second out-of-state player with the signing of Lance Martin on May 7. Martin, who hails from Kingman, AZ, had a very successful athletic career at Kingman Academy High School. The 6-5 shooting guard was a starter on the CAA 3A State championship team during his junior year. Martin also won two CAA State Championships (2010 & 2013) on the KAHS baseball team as well.
Martin averaged 11 PPG and was selected to the Division III AIA All-Section team in 2013-14. He grabbed a team-high 9 RPG and also led the Tigers in blocked shots with 2/game. Martin was also named to the Division III Colorado River Region 1st Team after his senior campaign.
Martin had career-highs of 26 points and 17 rebounds while leading his team to an 18-3 record this past season. He recorded a double-double on December 13 with 22 points and 14 rebounds versus Northwest Christian.
Martin recently concluded his final baseball season at Kingman after his team bowed out in the second round of the state tournament. The third baseman/outfielder finished with a .280 batting average. He hit the first grand slam of his career this spring on Senior Night. The Tigers had a 15-4 record.
Coach Elders on Lance: "Lance is a very good player with a terrific upside. We're excited about him joining our program. He has great size for a guard and can score in a lot of different ways. Lance has the ability to take the ball to the basket and finish as well as knock down perimeter shots. He's a great fit for our program."
Lance on why he chose Cornerstone: "I chose Cornerstone University because of the family atmosphere and strong basketball tradition. I look forward to being a Golden Eagle."
Martin is the son of Jeff and Leslie Martin. An outstanding student in the classroom with a 3.7 GPA, Martin plans on majoring in Biology at Cornerstone.
