Kyle Steigenga, one of the most heralded athletes in the state of Michigan the last couple of years, recently signed his Letter of Intent to play basketball for Cornerstone University. Steigenga, a 6-6 forward, starred at Holland Christian High School where he became the school's all-time leading scoring this season.  He finished his career with 1,241 points.

Steigenga was named to several all-state teams following his senior season including the Associated Press 1st Team, Detroit News 1st Team, BCAM 1st Team and Detroit Free Press 2nd Team. He was also named to the Grand Rapids Press Dream Team and was selected as the Holland Sentinel Player of the Year for his efforts.  Steigenga averaged 19 PPG and 9 RRG during the 2013-14 season. He led his team to an 18-6 record while capturing a share of the OK Green Conference title.  Steigenga also helped Holland Christian to their first District Championship in several years. He collected 405 career rebounds during his three-year varsity career.

Steigenga also had a spectacular career for the Maroon's football team the last two years.  The athletic wide receiver was named to the Grand Rapids Dream Team after both his junior and senior campaigns. During the 2012 season, Steigenga caught 55 passes for 1,087 yards and scored 18 touchdowns. Last fall, he had 57 receptions for 961 yards and 17 touchdowns and was named to the AP All-State 1st Team. Steigenga holds the single game, season and career records at HCHS for receptions, reception yards and touchdowns.

Steigenga also competes in the high jump and long jump for his high school track team.  He tied the school record by clearing 6'-6" in the high jump during his junior season. He recently set the HCHS school record by going 21'-3'' in the long jump.

Steigenga had a career-high 34 points versus Zeeland West during his sophomore season. He is also a three-time 1st Team All-Conference player for the Maroons. Steigenga has been equally successful in the classroom at HCHS where he has maintained a 3.98 GPA.

Coach Elders on Kyle:  "Kyle is a tremendous basketball player and athlete.  He's been our top recruit in this class for several years.  He first caught our eye when he came to our summer basketball camp during his junior high years.  He's the best basketball player in the area and one of the best players in the entire state.  More than a basketball player, Kyle is a tremendous young man with great Christian character.  To say that we're excited to have Kyle in our program is an immense understatement."

Kyle on why he chose Cornerstone: "I chose Cornerstone because it's a perfect fit for me.  I love the Christian atmosphere, coaches, players and the fact that it's close to home."

Kyle is the son of Tom & Susan Steigenga.  His brother Tyler runs both Track and Cross Country for Cornerstone University.
