(Sylvannia, Ohio) The Golden Eagles opened the WHAC tournament against Concordia tonight at 6:00 p.m. Cornerstone jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning. Hailey Castillo lead off with a bunt single and advanced to second on a wild throw. Castillo advanced to third on a Jenna Weightman groundout. Lauren Pasciak brought Castillo home with a single up the middle. Heidi Walburg forced out Pasciak on a grounder to the shortstop but advanced to second on a throwing error and scored on a Megan Oberst single to right field to put the Golden Eagles up 2-0. The Cardinals tied the score at 2-2 in the top of the fourth inning on 2 hits and an error. The Golden Eagles reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Jenna Weightman led off with a triple and scored on a Lauren Pasciak single to make it 3-2. Cornerstone got an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Emily Bode pinch hit for Alyssa Ambu and got a single up the middle. Ambu came in to pinch run for Bode and stole second. Ambu advanced to third on a Hailey Castillo single. Ambu then scored in a delayed steal. Castillo broke for second and Ambu scored when the throw was made towards second. Heidi Walburg retired the side in the bottom of the seventh inning to secure the victory for Cornerstone.

Cornerstone advanced to play Madonna in the winner's bracket. It was a battle of top pitchers in the second game of the day. WHAC Pitcher of the Year Bree Crampton and Heidi Walburg cruised through the first four innings. Walburg gave up a hit in the top of the fifth but the Crusaders stranded her on second. The Golden Eagles sent 13 batters to the plate in the bottom of the fifth inning and would chase Crampton from the game as Cornerstone scored 8 runs to win the game 8-0. Jenna Weightman reached on an error to lead off the fifth. Lauren Pasciak knocked her in with a triple to start off the scoring. Walburg followed her with a single to bring Pasciak home. Megan Oberst then hit a 2-run shot over the center field fence to make it 4-0. Ashley Niedermayer and Alexsandra Szajna both hit singles to put runners on first and second. Emily Bode forced Szajna out at second and Rachel Bode flied out for the second out. Hailey Castillo knocked in Niedermayer to make it 5-0. Jenna Weightman singled to bring in another run. Weightman came up for her second plate appearance in the fifth inning and singled to right to plate Ambu (pinch runner). Lauren Pasciak hit a single to score Castillo. Heidi Walburg walk to load the bases and Megan Oberst walked to bring home their eight run. The Golden Eagles would win 8-0 and will face Davenport at 4:30 pm.
