(Lima, Ohio) The Golden Eagles made the long trip down to University of Northwestern Ohio today and they took a while to get over the travel. The Racers jumped out to an early lead scoring runs in each of the first two innings to take a 2-0 lead. The Golden Eagles scored three in the top of the third to give CU a 3-2 lead. Heidi Walburg hit a one out double to start things off. Megan Oberst hit a single to put runners on first and second. Ashley Niedermayer drew a walk to load the bases and Alexsandra Szajna cleared the bases with a double which put Cornerstone up 3-2 at the time. UNOH scored a run in the bottom half of the third inning to tie the game and scored another in the bottom of the fourth inning to go up 4-3. The Golden Eagles got the tying runner on second in the top of the seventh but stranded her as Northwestern held on for the 4-3 win in Game 1.
The Golden Eagles fared much better in Game 2. Cornerstone got on the board early. Lauren Pasciak singled and advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Heidi Walburg doubled to center field to bring Pasciak home. Walburg then scored on an Ashley Niedermayer triple to make it 2-0. The Golden Eagles scored 2 more runs in the top of the third. Jenna Weightman led off with a triple. Weightman was thrown out on a Lauren Pasciak fielder's choice. Pasciak then scored on a Heidi Walburg double. Megan Oberst followed her with another double to bring in another run to make it 4-0. Rachel Nelson got a two out double in the top of the fourth inning and advanced on a wild pitch. Hailey Castillo got a single to knock in Nelson. Jenna Weightman followed her with a single to put runners on first and second. Lauren Pasciak singled which brought both Weightman and Castillo home to make it 7-0. Alexsandra Szajna hit another RBI double to make it 8-0 in the top of the fifth. Rachel Nelson shut the Racers out in the fifth and pitched a 1-hitter for the Golden Eagles to improve to 7-6 on the season. Cornerstone improves to 20-14 overall and 10-6 in the WHAC.
Cornerstone will play Lourdes tomorrow to make up a game that was rained out earlier this season. That will be their last two games of the regular season.
