Cornerstone University head men's soccer coach Mark Bell announced today that six student-athletes have signed letters of intent and will join the Golden Eagle program for the 2014 season.

We are adding 6 tremendous student-athletes that all demonstrate great character and leadership qualities. They will all contribute to the program's success both on and off the field." said Bell
Dan Bergquist ( Aurora, IL/Wheaton Academy) Defender
Daniel is a defender from Aurora, IL. He is coming from an excellent Wheaton Academy soccer program and also a member of Ajax FC club in Chicago. Dan is a solid defender who has great overall speed and athleticism. With the loss of 2013 WHAC defensive Player of the Year, Jordan Wilson, it was important to add quality defenders that will fit in to our system and we expect him to step right in. "
Dan was a 4 year varsity player for Wheaton Academy…3 year starter…member of Wheaton Academy 2012 and 2013 teams that placed 4th in the state…was awarded captain's armband for his senior year…captain of Ajax FC club team…wants to major in Finance…son of Steve and Nicole Bergquist
Daniel on why he chose Cornerstone: "The main reason I chose Cornerstone is the community that I have seen and heard about. I feel that Cornerstone is a university that takes our relationship with God very seriously. Thomas Bowes (Grand Rapids, MI/Northpointe Christian) Goalkeeper
Thomas is a goalkeeper from Northpointe Christian here in Grand Rapids and plays for Grand Rapids Crew Jrs club. Thomas was brought to our attention by former Golden Eagle, Bruce Pobocik. Bruce had this to say about Thomas, "Thomas is one of the greatest players to come through Northpointe Soccer both on and off the field. Thomas's has unwavering character and integrity, this combined with his unmatched work ethic and devotion can be attributed to his great success. Thomas is a natural born leader, he is able to inspire through his play, as well as challenge his teammates to grow in their game and spirituality. It has been an absolute pleasure to coach Thomas the past 4 years, and I am so proud to see him continue his career at Cornerstone University. "Thomas had an excellent career at Northpointe Christian and his addition gives us great depth at the goalkeeper position.
At NorthPointe he was 1st Team All Conference-OK Silver…All District his sophomore, junior and senior year.

Caleb Colp (Stevensville, MI/Stevensville HS) Midfielder
Caleb is an attacking midfielder from Stevensville, MI. He played for Lakeshore Stevensville High School and for the Indiana Invaders club. High School. "He is a very complete player and I expect he will be a sparkplug for us in the midfield this season. He is a good technical player with good instincts around the ball and is one of the most accomplished high school players in this year's recruiting class. "
Varsity starter for 3 years at Lakeshore High School… was named to All-Conference and All-District teams his Freshman, Sophomore and Senior years…named to All-Regional team his Sophomore and Senior year…named All-State-HM his Sophomore year and 2nd Team All-State his Senior year. Caleb was leading scorer for Varsity during his freshman, sophomore and senior years. He was named Captain his senior year. Caleb is also very involved with DECA, Church youth group and Student Council….son of David and Crystal Colp
Evan Duey (Valparaiso, IN/Victory Christian Academy) Goalkeeper
Evan is a goalkeeper from Valparaiso, IN. Evan played for Victory Christian Academy and had an outstanding career. Evan has a big, strong presence. . I truly believe the competition between sophomore Nic Hopkins, Thomas Bowes and Evan will develop tremendous growth for all three of our goalkeepers."
Varsity captain for 3 years…3 time All Conference honors…NWI Boy's Soccer Honorable Mention…ACSI Distinguished Christian High School Student in Academics, Leadership and Athletics…Conference Championships in 2012 and 2013…son of John and Tracy Duey…wants to major in Youth Ministry.
Evan on why he chose Cornerstone:
"I chose CU for a few reasons. I liked its doctrine, which mattered to me since I am majoring in Youth Ministry. Its location is ideal because it is a good distance from home but near the city of Grand Rapids. I also had contact with people connected with CU such as the professors, the soccer program and Dr. Stowell.
Sebastian Ferretti (Santo Domingo, Dominic Republic/MacDuffie School, MA)
Sebastian is a midfielder. Sebastian has very good technical skills and quick feet. He will give us tremendous depth along with our returning lettermen in our midfield.
Sebastian scored 19 goals in 16 games last season…led the team in assists…was instrumental in securing MacDuffie a 3rd seed in New England…achieving both CISAC and Western New England titles…was selected for both New England Senior and Western new England All-Star teams…son of Massimo and Itzel Ferretti…wants to major in Business management

Matt Larsen (Wayland, MI/Wayland HS) Defender
Matt Larsen is a center back from Wayland; MI. Matt is a very solid player. He's got good pace and a good athlete. He is strong in the air and very combative. We think he can turn into an excellent defender. We connected with Matt through our Night of Nets event. Matt and his family have an amazing story and was truly a privilege to partner with him on this. "
Matt scored 11 goals and collected 18 assists over his career at Wayland…earned All Conference, All District and All County honors…served as team captain in 2013…wants to major in Secondary Education…son of Doug and Macy Larsen.
