(Livonia, Mich.) The Golden Eagles travelled over to Livonia to play UM-Dearborn at Ladywood H.S. today and they left with a 2-0 WHAC record with a 5-1 and 6-3 win over the Wolverines. Cornerstone went up 1-0 in the top of the second inning. Lauren Bailey led off the inning with a walk and scored on a fielder's choice. The Wolverines tied the score in the bottom of the second inning with a solo homer. The two teams played scoreless through the next four innings. Cornerstone broke the game open in the top of the seventh inning. Rachel Nelson led off with a single and advanced to 2nd on an Alexsandra Szajna ground out. Hailey Castillo drove in Nelson with a single. Jenna Weightman followed with a single and Heidi Walburg walked to load the bases. Megan Oberst knocked in Weightman and Castillo with a single. Ashley Niedermayer hit an RBI single to bring Walburg across the plate to give Cornerstone a 5-1 advantage. Rachel Nelson retired the side in the bottom of the seventh to secure the win for the Golden Eagles.
The Wolverines scored unearned runs in the first and second inning to take a 2-0 lead over the Golden Eagles. Cornerstone responded with a 6-run fourth inning. Megan Oberst led off the inning with a solo homer. Alexsandra Szajna doubled and scored on a Caitlyn Hartline double to tie the score at 2-2. Hartline advanced to 3rd on a passed ball and scored on a Alyssa Ambu ground out. Hailey Castillo singled, stole 2nd, advanced to 3rd on a wild pitch and scored on a Jenna Weightman single to make it 4-2. Weightman stole 2nd and advanced to 3rd on a wild pitch. Lauren Pasciak was hit by a pitch and Heidi Walburg hit a 2 RBI double to put Cornerstone up 6-2. The Wolverines scored one run in the bottom of the fifth inning but that would end the scoring for the game and Cornerstone would finish with a 6-3 victory. Walburg picked up her 6th win of the season as Cornerstone improves to 10-6 and 2-0 in the WHAC.
