The Cornerstone University baseball team won today in walk-off fashion against Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) foe Davenport University at DeWitt Field in Grand Rapids. Junior Dillon Reust came up with a bases loaded single in the bottom of the 9th inning to win it, by a score of 3-2, for the Golden Eagles.
Junior Jon Knapp got the start on the mound for Cornerstone and pitched a great game in which he gave up two runs in seven innings. He scattered four hits and struck out five while walking two in a no-decision. Junior Luke Heller (4-1) came on in relief of Knapp and pitched the final two innings to earn his fourth win of the year. Knapp and Heller held the Davenport offense to just five hits on the afternoon.
The Golden Eagle offense was led by junior Tom Enslen who went 2-4 on the day. Sophomore Travis Gordon hit a double, scored a run, and was on base three times while hitting out of the lead-off spot. Dillon Reust was 1-5 and drove in two runs including the game winner.
The win puts the Cornerstone baseball overall record at 13-8 and 3-2 in the WHAC. The Golden Eagles will play a four game set beginning this Friday in Lima, Ohio against the University of Northwestern Ohio.
