(Rosemont, Ill.) The Golden Eagles travelled over to Chicago to take on Roosevelt University. Cornerstone got on the board first in the top of the third inning. Jenna Weightman hit a 1 out single through the right side of the infield and scored on a Lauren Pasciak triple to give Cornerstone a 1-0 lead. Roosevelt responded immediately with 11 runs in the bottom of the third inning on 8 hits and 5 errors by the Golden Eagles and the game would end after five innings with Roosevelt winning 11-1.
Cornerstone went down early in Game 2. Roosevelt scored 1 run in the first inning and 2 runs in the second inning to take a 3-0 lead over Cornerstone. The Golden Eagles struck for 4 runs in the top of the third to take a 4-3 lead. Abby MacArthur opened the inning with a single and advanced to second base on a wild pitch and then to third on a wild pitch as well. Jenna Weightman grounded out to second base and MacArthur scored. Lauren Pasciak followed with a single and came home on a Heidi Walburg double. Megan Oberst knocked in Walburg with a single to center field and then advanced to second base with the throw to the plate. Emily Bode singled to the pitcher and Oberst advanced to third. Hailey Castillo then reached on an error and Oberst scored the fourth run of the inning. The Golden Eagles went up 5-3 in the top of the fifth inning. Megan Oberst hit a two out double and score on an Alexsandra Szajna single to give Cornerstone a two run lead. Roosevelt got one back in the bottom half of the inning to make it 5-4 and then tied it in the bottom of the sixth inning with a two out rally to make it 5-5. Neither team got any hits or run in the seventh. Cornerstone reclaimed the lead in the top of the eighth inning. Jenna Weightman drew a two out walk and scored on a Lauren Pasiak double to put Cornerstone up 6-5. Heidi Walburg got the first two runners out in the bottom half of the inning but then Roosevelt hit four consecutive singles to win the game 7-6.
Cornerstone drops to 8-6 on the year and will return to action tomorrow when they take on Judson College at 1:00 p.m.
