(Clermont, Fla.) The Golden Eagles played their last game of their Florida trip today and they split with two Chicagoland Conference teams and both games went to extra innings. Cornerstone played Trinity Christian (Ill.) in the first game. The Trolls took a 2-0 lead in the third inning on a walk, a double, and an error. The Golden Eagles reclaimed the lead in the fifth inning in much the same way as the Trolls scored. Rachel Bode walked, Alyssa Ambu reached on an error, and Lauren Pasciak hit an RBI single to bring home one run. The next two runs were scored on another error to give Cornerstone a 3-2 lead after five innings. Trinity Christian tied the game on an error and a two out double in the top of the seventh. The Golden Eagles kept the Trolls from scoring in the top of the eighth and scored an unearned run in the bottom half of the inning to defeat Trinity Christian 5-4.
The second game was played against #5 St. Xavier (Ill.). The two teams battled to a scoreless draw through seven innings. Cornerstone placed a runner (Jenna Weightman)on 2nd base to start the inning and moved her to third on a sacrifice bunt but they couldn't get her home. The Cougars placed their runner on 2nd base and Cornerstone intentionally walked the next runner to set up a force out and they got the first runner at 3rd base but the next batter hit a single to left field which scored the runner from 2nd base to win the game 1-0. The Golden Eagles finish their Florida trip with a record of 8-4.
Cornerstone will return home and are scheduled to play Indiana Wesleyan and Grace College at Marion, Ind. on Friday, March 14th. Check the web site to see if those games will be played as scheduled.
