The Cornerstone University baseball team defeated Ashland University, an NCAA Division II opponent, in Auburndale, Fla. today by a score of 6-3.
Cornerstone starting pitcher Justin Geerts moved to 2-0 on the season with seven strong innings of work. He scattered nine hits and gave up two runs while striking out six. Jon Knapp finished the game for his first save of the year. The Golden Eagle defense was terrific turning two double plays and playing nine innings of error free baseball.
The Cornerstone offense took a commanding lead by plating five runs in the first three innings against Ashland. The offense was led by Travis Gordon, Davis Martin, and Austin Brunk who each had two hits on the day. Joel Boersen hit a double and scored two runs while Brunk drove in two runs.
Today's win puts Cornerstone at 7-4 on the season. They will head to Daytona tomorrow to take on nationally ranked Embry-Riddle in a 6:00 game.
