Cornerstone University and head baseball coach David Mitroff are pleased to announce the signing of Nate Silvey, a pitcher from NorthPointe Christian High School in Grand Rapids. As a junior at NorthPointe, the left-hander went 3-3 with a 0.93 earned run average. He struck out 41 hitters and allowed 13 walks in 49 innings of work.
"I chose Cornerstone University because God opened a door that was right across the street from NorthPointe," Nate said. "I wanted a place to challenge me spiritually and athletically and Cornerstone was the perfect fit for that." When asked about his goals for his time at Cornerstone, Nate said, "On the field I would love to win conference titles and make a run in the NAIA tournament. Off the field I want to be deeply rooted with the guys on campus and continue to strengthen my walk with Christ."
Baseball coach David Mitroff said, "We are pleased to add Nate Silvey to our group of young pitchers. His spiritual maturity and baseball talent are a perfect fit for our program here at Cornerstone. We are happy to add a young man with a great work ethic and a lot of upside to what could be a very good 2015 pitching staff."
