The fourth ranked Cornerstone men's basketball team traveled to Fort Wayne, Ind., today for another WHAC contests against Indiana Tech. The game was the second meeting between the two teams this season and the second win this season for the Golden Eagles over the Warriors. During the Warrior's senior night, Cornerstone dominated in all areas including points in the paint, fast break and bench points taking the 76-57 victory. Following the night, Indiana Tech falls to 14-11 overall and 9-8 in conference play while the Golden Eagles improve to 24-3 overall and 17-1 during the WHAC season – remaining in first place in the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference.
After trailing early in the game, Cornerstone used a 10-0 run halfway through the first half to go ahead 12-6. Over the next five minutes the Warriors were able to chip away at the lead trailing by a mere one point. The Golden Eagles picked up the pace one more time in the remaining six minutes going on a 22-6 run pulling away from Indiana Tech en route to a 39-21 lead heading into the locker room. Wes Hudson led all players in the first with 18 points while Jake Plite and Ben Lanning grabbed three rebounds for the Golden Eagles. As a team, Cornerstone shot a strong 56.7 percent from the field while going four-for-eight from behind the arc.
During the second, the Golden Eagles would pull out to their largest lead with 13 minutes remaining in the game as the scoreboard read 62-27. Indiana Tech would not go away easily, playing strong the remainder of the game cutting the deficit to 19 points but with only one minute remaining.
KEY TEAM STATS
Cornerstone was able to take their 17th conference win highlighted by their 24 points off turnovers, 43 points in the paint, 13 fast break points and 28 bench points. As a team, the Golden Eagles shot 57.1% during the game holding the Warriors to a 46.7 shooting percentage. Hudson finished with 24 points leading Cornerstone while Ty Mason and Joey Blauwkamp added 12 and 11 points respectively.
With only three more WHAC games left in the regular season, Cornerstone remains first in the conference standings. Up next for the Coach Kim Elder's team will be Lourdes University at home on Saturday, February 15, at 3 p.m.
