The No. 23 Cornerstone women's basketball team welcomed Concordia on Saturday afternoon for Homecoming Weekend on campus. This afternoon's contest was the second meeting this season against Concordia. On Jan 4 the Golden Eagles fell to the Cardinals 66-45 but today CU had their revenge.
The Cardinals jumped out to an early 8-point lead in the first while holding Cornerstone off the board for the first six minutes. Tanner Hostetler dished the ball to Ashley Niedermayer for an easy two point shot off the glass to put the Golden Eagles on the scoreboard. Using momentum, CU went on a 6-0 run to cut the Cardinal lead to two points. Cornerstone would eventually take their first lead of the game with 8 minutes until the half. Three point made by Emma Lockhart gave the 15-12 advantage. The Cardinals fought their way back to even the score with two minutes remaining but the Golden Eagles played tough down the stretch taking the 30-26 halftime lead.
During the first, Cornerstone shot 42.9 percent from the field while holding Concordia to a 31.4 percentage. The Cardinals held the 22-19 advantage in rebounding. Katelyn Cousins led all Golden Eagles with 7 points while Jill Hendrickson grabbed 6 rebounds.
In the second, the Golden Eagles rode their momentum pushing the lead to 12 with 5:20 remaining in the game. Cornerstone would continue to play strong both offensively and defensively holding the Cardinals to just eight more points in the game. The Golden Eagles would take the homecoming victory, 61-46, and revenge from last meeting with the Cardinals.
