(Findlay, Ohio) Fifth year senior, Cody Risch began his final season of Indoor eligibility winning the 3,000 meter race walk at the University of Findlay Indoor Classic. Freshman Josh Brand spread his efforts over two days, setting the freshman record in the heptathlon.
Risch repeated his win from 2013, building up a huge lead and winning by :59 in 12:50.49. His time was well under the NAIA national qualifying time of 14:15.00.
Brand began his two-day, seven event competition with personal best, 7.55 in the 60 meter dash. After going 19-4.25 in the long jump and sending the shot put 35-3.25, Josh completed the day clearing 5-10.5 in the high jump. His combined efforts totaled 2412 points. Saturday he added a personal best in the 60 meter hurdles, 9.35; pole vaulted 11-11.75 then ran 2:48.68 to finish first the final event, the 1,000 meters. His two day point total of 4384 put him third overall and broke the CU freshman record of 4302 set last season by Deon Fox.
The Golden Eagle thrower had a good meet, with Gabe turner breaking his freshman record in the shot put with a mark of 45-6.5, placing seventeenth. Ross Raymond was eighth. Ross Raymond extended his best in the 35 pound weight throw to 46-6, taking eighth.
