Game Flow

The Golden Eagles traveled over to Livonia to play a crucial WHAC contest tonight that would be pivotal to the regular season championship.  Cornerstone defeated Madonna earlier this season and had a 1 game lead going into the game.  A win would give Cornerstone some separation but a loss would bring the two team into a tie.  Cornerstone would start well and raced out to an 9-2 lead in the first five minutes of play.  Madonna would sink a 3-pointer to make it 9-5 but the Golden Eagles would then go on a 10-3 run to go up 19-8 with 10:05 left in the half.  Cornerstone would push their lead to as high as 15 points (34-19) on back to back baskets by Cory Cox and Travis Wells at 4:56.  Madonna would not give up and they made a big run at the end of the half to cut the lead back to 4 points (40-36) at the half.  The Crusaders continued to ride that momentum shift to start the second half and quickly claimed their first lead at 18:20 on a 3-pointer by Travis Schuba.  Jake Plite tied the game at 44-44 about a minute later but the Crusaders would then take the lead and keep it for the next seven minutes of play.  Travis Wells tied the game at 53-53 on a fast break lay-up which would lead to a Cornerstone run to regain their lead.  Cornerstone outscored Madonna 10-4 to take a 63-57 lead with 6:15 left in the game.  Madonna would keep the game close and outscore Cornerstone 16-10 over the next four minutes to knot the score at 73-73 but they could not reclaim the lead.  Wes Hudson was fouled and converted two foul shots to give Cornerstone a two point advantage at 2:12.  Madonna failed to convert and then Cory Cox hit a big 3-pointer to put the Golden Eagles up 78-73 with 1:20 left in the game.  Madonna again failed to convert and were forced to foul at that point and that is how the rest of the game played out for the most part.  Cornerstone made most of their foul shots and Madonna only made a pair of 2-point baskets as Cornerstone went on to defeat the Crusaders 84-77 to give them a two game lead over Madonna in conference play.  The Golden Eagles have a 3 game lead over Davenport and Northwestern Ohio.  Wes Hudson led the Golden Eagles with 25 points.  Ben Lanning, Travis Wells, and Jake Plite also scored double digits for Cornerstone.

KEY TEAM STATS

The Golden Eagles grabbed 10 more boards (36-26) than Madonna in the game.  Cornerstone also pressed the action taking the ball to the basket and going to the foul line twice as much as the Crusaders.  Cornerstone made 33 of 40 from the charity stripe while Madonna made just 14 of 20.
