(Grand Rapids, Mich.) The Cornerstone women opened their home season in Mol Arena with a 3-0 (27-25, 25-16, 25-13) win over UM-Dearborn on Tuesday night in convincing fashion. In game one, the Golden Eagles held onto the last rally to claim the 27-25 win as both teams battled back and forth with the lead. The momentum carried over for Cornerstone in game two as they jumped out to an early 16-3 lead and never looked back as they cruised to a 25-16 victory. UM-Dearborn scored the first point in game three and stayed even with the Golden Eagles as both teams tallied nine points apiece. CU then began to dominate the second half of the game and ran away with a 25-13 victory to win the match.
Cornerstone won the battle at the net as they finished with 47 kills on the night. The Golden Eagles were led by Becky Albrecht who finished with 16 kills followed closely by Alicia TerHaar with 12 and Jodi Grandholm with 8. Marcie Blacquiere collected 34 assists and also added 6 kills of her own. Kayla Wilson finished the night atop the dig chart with 19 in addition to serving up 2 aces. TerHaar and Katie McKee each had 2 blocks.
The Golden Eagles inched closer to .500 as they improved their overall record to 9-11 and their WHAC record to 1-2. The Cornerstone women return to action on Thursday as they host the league leading and nationally ranked (9th) Crusaders of Madonna University. Show your support by wearing gold to the match.
