The Cornerstone women's basketball team welcomed (RV) Indiana Tech on Wednesday night their ninth conference game. Last year the two teams met twice with the Golden eagles taking both contests. Tonight's contest went down to the final few minutes as Cornerstone sealed the 70-65 victory, their sixth conference win of the season.
During the first half, there were three ties but Indiana Tech held the largest lead occurring with 9:43 on the clock. The Golden Eagles would close out the first on an 18-6 run to even the score heading into the locker room. Cornerstone shot 36% from the field holding their opponents to a 38 shooting percentage. The Golden Eagles out rebounded their opponents 25-20 during the first half. CU was led by Katelyn Cousins in the first with 8 points while Ashley Niedermayer added 6 points and 6 rebounds.
The Golden Eagles would take the five point lead within the first five minutes into the second half and would control momentum. Ten minutes on the clock and the Warriors tied the game but CU would go on a 10-3 run. Indiana Tech would slowly chip away at the lead and after a three point shot made by Ulyssia Richmond, Cornerstone would only lead by one with 2:32 on the clock. However, the Golden Eagles would push the lead again to five as Tanner Hostetler made a pair of clutch free throws to seal the victory.
KEY TEAM STATS
The Golden Eagles shot 40% from the field compared to the Warriors shooting 35.1% during the game. Cornerstone dominated the glass as they out rebounded Indiana Tech, 55-38, highlighted by Jill Hendrickson's 20 total rebounds. Cornerstone added six steals, 11 assists and four blocks. Hendrickson led the way with 17 points as Cousins chipped in with 16. Janae Trombley and Tanner Hostetler also added 13 and 12 points respectively.
The Golden Eagles will continue their conference season when they travel to Lourdes University. The game is scheduled for Saturday with a 1 p.m. tip off.
