The Golden Eagles started well today in their game against Bethel College. Tanner Hostetler opened the game with a 3-pointer just :15 seconds into the half and they kept that lead for the first eight minutes of the game before Bethel tied the game at 16-16 on a 3-pointer of their own at 11:39. The Pilots would then take control of the game outscoring the Golden Eagles 21-7 through the remainder of the first half of play and would take a 37-23 lead into the locker room after sinking a 3-pointer as time ran out. Cornerstone would come out hot after halftime and cut the lead to 41-36 by making a 13-4 run over the first 4:15 of the second half. The Golden Eagles got to within 3 (46-43) at 12:14 but the Pilots would respond and push the lead back to 10 (56-46) with 9:47 left in the half. Cornerstone would cut back into the lead quickly reducing the deficit to three (58-55) over the next couple of minutes and would tie the score at 58-58 with 7:13. The teams went back and forth over the next six minutes and would find themselves tied at 72-72 with 1:00 left in the game. Bethel then had 3 shots to take the lead but missed all of them and then they fouled Tanner Hostetler who made 1 of 2 from the line to give Cornerstone a 73-72 lead. Cornerstone forced a turnover with :08 seconds and Bethel was forced to foul and Katelyn Cousins stepped to the line and sank both shots to put Cornerstone up 75-72. Bethel missed a last second 3-pointer at the buzzer and the Golden Eagles ended up with a 75-72 victory over the Pilots. Jill Hendrickson led the Golden Eagles recording her 6th double-double of the season scoring 23 points and pulling down 21 rebounds. Katelyn Cousins and Tanner Hostetler added 16 points each in the win.
KEY TEAM STATS
The Golden Eagles shot 56.7% (17-30) from the field in the second half to erase the 14 point deficit at the half. Cornerstone won the battle of the boards pulling down 48 rebounds to Bethel's 36 rebounds in the game.
Cornerstone will have a couple weeks off over the holidays and will return to action on Jan. 4th when they travel over to Ann Arbor to take on Concordia at 1:00 p.m.
