(Grand Rapids, Mich.) Entering the WHAC season, the Golden Eagles had to face two of the top contenders, Indiana Tech and Aquinas. Losing to Indiana Tech on Tuesday the Golden Eagles knew the importance of Thursday's match vs. Aquinas. However CU was not at full strength playing without middle hitter Katie McKee and outside hitter Holly Cousins due to ankle injuries. Cornerstone lost the first game 17-25 and found themselves down 24-22 in the second only to rally to a 26-24 win and knot the match 1-1.
The rest of the match stayed close but it always seemed the Saints were in control and finished the match 21-25, 23-25. Becky Albrecht led the match with 17 kills on 46 attempts (.239) and 18 digs. Marcie Blacquiere dished out 33 assists and accounted for 6 kills and 6 digs. The Saints had four players in double figure kills with Chelsea Phillips lead the way with 16. CU hit .114 for the match while the Saints hit .222. CU falls to 6-9 overall and 0-2 in the WHAC while Aquinas improves to 12-1 overall and 2-0 in the WHAC.
