The Golden Eagles entered the game against Davenport 3-3 overall and 0-2 in the WHAC while Davenport was 5-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play but Cornerstone came ready to play tonight. The Panthers took an early 6-2 lead after the first minute of play but the Golden Eagles would make an 8-0 run over the next minute and a half to go up 10-6 with 17:25 on the clock. Tanner Hostetler hit a 3-pointer with 12:05 remaining in the half to give Cornerstone their largest lead (24-14) of the half. The Panthers would respond with a 17-2 run over the next six minutes to go up 31-26 with 5:59 left in the first half. Cornerstone would outscore Davenport 12-6 down the stretch to go into the locker room with a 38-37 lead at the half. The second half was very closely contested. The two teams traded the lead a couple of times early in the half before tying at 48-48 with 15:35 on the clock. Jill Hendrickson made a couple of foul shots followed by a Tanner Hostetler 3-pointer to give Cornerstone a 53-48 lead over the next :45 seconds but the Panthers battled back to tie the score at 56 all at 12:28 and then would take a 59-56 lead 11:23. The teams would tie at 59, 61, and 66 over the next few minutes of play. The Golden Eagles would make a 13-4 run over the next five minutes to take their largest lead (79-70) of the second half. The Panthers were then forced to foul and shoot 3's over the last minute but the Golden Eagles made their foul shots as they closed out the victory over the 2nd ranked Panthers. The game featured 8 ties and 13 lead changes and was another classic Cornerstone-Davenport game. Tanner Hostetler led the Golden Eagles with 23 points.
KEY TEAM STATS
Cornerstone had a very balanced attack with four players (Tanner Hostetler – 23, Katelyn Cousins and Jill Hendrickson – 15, and Janae Trombley -12) all scoring in double digits. Cornerstone shot 53.8% (7-13) from beyond the arc while the Panthers made just 8 of 24 (32%) from distance.
