The Golden Eagles travelled down to Lima, Ohio to take on the University of Northwestern Ohio today. The Racers took an early lead but the Golden Eagles kept battling back to keep the score close through the first 10 minutes of play. Katelyn Cousins hit a 2-point bucket with 10:05 on the clock to tie the score at 14-14. The Racers then went on a 17-4 run over the next seven minutes to take a 31-18 lead with just 3:46 on the clock. The Golden Eagles did cut into the lead a little bit over the last 3:46 and went into the locker room down just 37-29. The Golden Eagles gradually reduced the deficit over the first 10 minutes of the second half. Cornerstone got it to 51-45 about half way through the period and they tied the score at 51-51 with just over 8:00 and then 53-53 with 6:45 remaining. The Racers then made an 8-0 run to open up a 59-51 lead with 2:52 left on the clock The Golden Eagles responded and got the lead down to 1 point (61-60) with just over a minute to play on a Emma Lockhart 3-pointer. The Golden Eagles forced a turnover and got the ball back but Katelyn Cousins missed a 3-pointer with :17 seconds on the clock and Cornerstone was forced to foul. The Racers made only one of the free throws to make it 62-60. The Golden Eagles had one more shot to win or tie the game and Emma Lockhart missed a 3-pointer as the clock ran out and University of Northwestern (Ohio) walked away with a 62-60 win over Cornerstone.
KEY TEAM STATS
The Golden Eagles shot 34.3% (23-67) for the game which included 5-26 from long range. The Racers didn't fare much better shooting just 38.7% from the field.
The Golden Eagles will host Davenport in the WHAC home opener on Wednesday, November 20th at 5:30 p.m.
