KEY TEAM STATS
Following an exciting 71-68 victory over Robert Morris College just a day before, the Golden Eagles had their work cut out for them against No. 21 Purdue Calumet on Saturday afternoon. Cornerstone shot 44.4% from the field while keeping their opponents to a minimal 25.3 percent. Cornerstone dominated the glass grabbing 49 rebounds while dishing out 13 assists, connecting on five blocks and adding nine steals.
The Cornerstone women's basketball team finished the Purdue Calumet Tournament on Saturday with a 2-0 record following an exciting eight point victory over the Peregrins. Sophomore Jill Hendrickson aided in the victory after recording a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds.
The first half of play went back and forth between the two teams as there were five ties and nine lead changes. The Golden Eagles dominated inside the paint with 16 points compared to the minimal four that Purdue Calumet produced. Cornerstone also received help from their bench with 12 points. The largest lead during the half was with 10 minutes remaining as the Peregrins took a six point advantage. The Golden Eagles would eventually pull close to the lead but go into halftime down by two, 36-34.
The Peregrins would stay close in the game in part to the help of Cornerstone's turnovers. Purdue Calumet would add 12 points off turnovers in the second half. With 12 minutes remaining in the game, Cornerstone would take the one point lead after Katelyn Cousins hit a jumper in the paint. The Golden Eagles would ride the momentum and hold the advantage till the final whistle. Hendrickson would seal the victory in the final seconds converting on two free throw shots.
The Golden Eagles will take a break from the action and return back to the hard-court on Wednesday, Nov. 6, in Rochester Hills. Cornerstone will face Rochester College at Rochester High School for a 7 p.m . tip-off.
