The Cornerstone University volleyball squad welcomed UM-Dearborn on Wednesday night, taking a 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-20) victory and their fifth conference win. After the night, the Golden Eagles are now 11-2 since returning from their nine-game trip out west and the squad advances to 13-9 overall and 5-1 in the conference. The Wolverines fall to 6-19 overall and 1-6 in the WHAC after the night.
Cailie Johnson led all players during the night with 13 kills while Becky Albrecht chipped in with nine kills. Kim Weaver dished out a game-high 34 assists compared to Dearborn's Emily Tjapkes 28 assists. Megan Newhouse helped out during the match with a total of 12 digs while Abby Miedema added 11 digs. Johnson helped out defensively as well recording 1 solo and 4 assisted blocks while the Golden Eagles had nine team blocks. Cornerstone had a set high .382 attacking percentage in set one while holding the Wolverines to a minimal .054 in the third set.
Cornerstone will return to the hard court on Friday and Saturday at the Missouri Baptist Tournament facing three nationally ranked opponents including No. 19 Grand View University and No. 17 Missouri Baptist College on Friday at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. On Saturday Cornerstone will face No. 22 Columbia College at 11 a.m. and Friends University to wrap up the tournament at 2 p.m.
