The Cornerstone University volleyball squad won for the fourth time in five games this season during league play on Thursday night, taking a 3-1 (25-13, 24-26, 25-16, 25-16) decision at Marygrove College. After the win the Golden Eagles are now 11-1 since the beginning of September and advance to 12-9 overall and 4-1 conference record. The Mustangs fall to 13-9 overall and 0-5 in conference.
The Golden Eagles were led by four players notching double-digit figures for kills including Chelsea Lake (12), Libby Webber (11), Cailie Johnson (10) and Megan Newhouse (10). Kim Weaver dished out the match-high 50 assists compared to Marygrove's Nicole Kempinski's 25 assists. Cornerstone had a set-high .393 attacking percentage in set one while holding the Mustangs to a negative attacking pace during the same set. The Golden Eagles held the team advantage 12-7 blocks, 56-38 kills and 55-42 in digs.
Cornerstone will take a break from the action this weekend and will be eager to get back on the court. On Wednesday, the Golden Eagles will they host conference foe, UM-Dearborn. Match is set for 7 p.m.
