The Cornerstone volleyball squad came out strong winning the opening set, 25-12, on Wednesday and rolled their way through the final two sets, 26-24 and 25-17, as they swept WHAC opponent Aquinas College. The Golden Eagles improve to 11-9 overall and 3-1 in the conference action while the Saints drop to 7-5 overall and 2-3 in conference action.
Cailie Johnson led the squad posting a game-high 10 kills while Libby Webber and Megan Newhouse were not far behind posting nine kills respectively on Wednesday. Kim Weaver (38) held the game-high stat in assists while Chelsea Lake led all players with double-digit digs tallying 17. The Golden Eagles had a set-high attacking percentage during set one notching a .400 pace while holding the Saints to a .028 during set three to take the match. Aquinas was led by nine kills notched by Molly Maynard, Brooke Wieland's 19 assists and 11 digs during Wednesday night's contest.
Cornerstone will head to Detroit today for another Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference match-up against Marygrove College. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Currently Cornerstone stands fifth in the WHAC conference while Marygrove holds a 0-4 record during conference play and is in tenth.
