Cornerstone hosted University of Northwestern Ohio in their WHAC opener and it was quite an exciting match for Senior Day.  The Golden Eagles struck first in the 11th minute of play.  Senior Rachel Wood won a tackle about 30 yards for the Racers goal and split a couple of defenders with a pass to Lexie-Brisson Fast.  Fast dribbled the GK and put the ball into the open net to give Cornerstone a 1-0 lead.  The Golden Eagles struck again about a minute and half later.  Cornerstone got a ball across the face of the goal and Kerri Hoffman hit a shot that the GK blocked but Hoffman ran down the rebound and put the ball into the back of the net to put the Golden Eagles up 2-0.  Hoffman struck again just four minutes later to make it 3-0.  Hoffman hit a longer shot from about 25-30 yards out and the GK mishandled to make it 3-0 just 16 minutes into the half.  The Racers got one back in the 25th minute of play.  They hit a bending free kick into the box and the Golden Eagles weren't able to clear before Taryn Pardoe flicked the ball over GK Allison Snowden.  Northwestern Ohio outshot Cornerstone 8-4 in the first half but the Golden Eagles led 3-1 on the scoreboard.  The Racers got right back in the game just a minute and a half into the second half on a goal by Sarah Hutchet.  Cornerstone did respond with a couple of good shots right after the Racers goal and probably were a little unlucky to score.  Teigan Mitcham put a header on goal the was saved  by the GK and then Kate Wiegman hit the rebound that rebounded off a Racers defender.  Cornerstone spent most of the rest of the half defending but they were able to keep UNO from scoring any more goals and they won a big WHAC contest to open up conference play.  The Racers outshot Cornerstone 8-4 in the second half as well.  Allison Snowden picked up her third win of the season with the win.  Cornerstone improved to 5-3 overall and 1-0 in the WHAC.  The Golden Eagles will return to action on Wednesday when they take on Indiana Tech at 7:00 p.m.
