(Grand Rapids, Mich. – Cornerstone) The Golden Eagles scored in each of their innings in an 8-0 defeat of UM-Dearborn today in the first game of their double header. Heidi Warmelink walked and Megan Oberst brought her home with a triple in the bottom of the first to make it 1-0. Ashley Niedermayer started the second with a triple and scored on a ground out by Rachel Bode to put CU up 2-0 after two innings. Haley Castillo opened the third inning with a single. She stole second base and scored on a Lauren Pasciak double. Warmelink follow Pasciak with a RBI single to make it 4-0. Harlie Sherman led off the fourth with a single. Sherman advanced to second on a Tahni Bruno ground out and then scored on a Haley Castillo single to center field. Warmelink brought in Castillo with an RBI double and Megan Oberst brought home Warmelink with an RBI single to give the Golden Eagles a 7-0 lead. Heidi Warmelink got in a little trouble in the top of the fifth but she got UM-Dearborn to ground out with the bases loaded to keep the Wolves off the scoreboard. Ashley Niedermayer led off the bottom of the fifth with a double and scored on a Rachel Bode single to end the game at 8-0.
The Golden Eagles put up three runs in the bottom of the first and three more in the bottom of the fifth inning of game 2 and went on to a 6-1 win. Haley Castillo singled and scored on a Lauren Pasciak double. Warmelink singled and moved Pasicak to third. Pasciak then scored on a sacrifice fly by Megan Oberst. Jenna Weightman followed with a single and Warmelink scored on an errant throw by Dearborn's right fielder. Dearborn scored one run in the top of the third to make it 3-1. Cornerstone added three more in the bottom of the fifth to make it 6-1. Pasciak led off with a single and Warmelink hit a two run shot to make it 5-1. Megan Oberst stepped up to the plate and followed Warmelink with a back to back home run to give CU a 6-1 lead. Neither team scored after that inning. Cornerstone walked off with a five run victory. Rachel Nelson improved to 8-2 from the circle. Cornerstone improved to 21-3 overall and 5-1 in the WHAC.
Cornerstone will return to action next Wednesday when they travel over to Davenport for a double header beginning at 4:00 p.m.
