(Winona Lake, Ind.) The Golden Eagles travelled back down to Grace to take on the Lancers in another double header today. Cornerstone defeated Grace in a double header last Saturday. Rachel Bode put the Golden Eagles on the scoreboard in the top of the second inning with an RBI double to bring home Jenna Weightman. Grace hit a solo shot in the bottom of the second to tie the score at 1-1. The game remained tied through seven innings. Haley Castillo was placed on second to start the eighth and advanced to third on a Megan Oberst ground out. Heidi Warmelink followed that with a double to bring in Castillo. Jenna Weightman reached on an error and Ashley Niedermayer hit a triple to bring in Warmelink and Weightman to make it 4-1. Grace failed to score in the bottom half of the inning giving Cornerstone a 4-1 win in the first game. Heidi Warmelink scattered five hits and improved to 8-1 on the season.
The Golden Eagles played as the home team in Game 2 against Grace. Grace took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning but Cornerstone exploded with 11 runs in the bottom of the second inning. Cornerstone recorded 7 hits which included a grand slam by Megan Oberst in the middle of the inning. Heidi Warmelink added a 3 run double in the bottom of the fourth inning to put the Golden Eagles up 15-1. Grace scored another in top of the fifth but the game was cut short because of the mercy rule. Megan Oberst and Heidi Warmelink both had 4 RBI's for Cornerstone. Haley Castillo, Tahni Bruno, and Ashley Niedermayer all had 2 RBI's in the win. Rachel Nelson gave up just 5 hits and improved to 5-1 on the year.
Cornerstone will return to action tomorrow when they take on Spring Arbor at Grace.
