(Winona Lake, Ind.) Cornerstone had to cancel their games at Indiana Wesleyan this weekend but they were able to pick up a double header with Grace College in Winona Lake, Ind. The Golden Eagles fell behind 2-0 in the second inning but responded quickly in the top of the third inning. Lauren Pasciak hit a 2 run shot over the center field fence to knot the score at 2-2. The Golden Eagles manufactured a couple of runs and took a 4-2 lead in the fifth inning. Harlie Sherman started the inning with a single, advanced to second on a ground out, then stole third base and scored on an error. Haley Castillo walked, advanced to third on an error, and scored on a wild pitch. Heidi Warmelink scattered six hits and picked the win to improve to 7-1 on the season.
The Golden Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning of Game 2. Ashley Niedermayer led off with a single. She advanced to second on a sacrifice by Alexsandra Szanja. Rachel Bode singled and advanced Niedermayer to third. Lauren Bailey followed with a single to bring in the first run. Cornerstone picked up three more in the top of the third. Heidi Warmelink and Megan Oberst both singled to start the inning. Jenna Weightman advanced the runners with a sac bunt. Ashley Niedermayer hit a fly to right field and Warmelink tagged and scored. Alexsandra Szanja followed with a triple to bring home Obert and Szanja scored on an error to give Cornerstone a 4-0 lead. The Lancers got one back in the bottom of the bottom of the third to make it 4-1 but the Golden Eagles responded with one of their own in the top of the fifth. Ashley Niedermayer singled and later scored on an errors to make it 5-1. Lauren Bailey (1-0) picked up her first win of the season from the circle and the Golden Eagles improved to 12-2 on the year.
Cornerstone will return to action on Wednesday when they travel back down to Indiana to take on Bethel College at 3:00 p.m.
