(Clermont, Fla.) Cornerstone finished off their Florida trip in style today with two more wins. They faced Spring Arbor in the first game. The Cougars took a 2-0 lead in the second inning. The Golden Eagles responded with two of their own in the bottom of the third inning. Tahni Bruno drew a walk to lead off the inning. Haley Castillo followed with a single. Lauren Pasciak moved both the runners up to second and third and Megan Oberst knocked them both in with a single up the middle to tie the score a 2-2. Tahni Bruno singled home Rachel Bode in the bottom of the fourth inning to give Cornerstone a 3-2 lead. The Cougars tied the game in the top of the sixth with a run to make it 3-3. The Golden Eagles continued the late game heroics when Rachel Bode hit a double to center field to bring in Ashley Neidermayer to put Cornerstone up 4-3. Heidi Warmelink got the first two batters out in the seventh but surrendered two consecutive singles before striking out the final batter to secure the win. Warmelink improved to 6-1 on the season. It marked the third straight game that Cornerstone had pulled out a victory in their last at bat.
Tahni Bruno gave the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead in the second inning against Mount Vernon by drawing a bases loaded walk. Lauren Pasciak and Megan Oberst hit RBI singles in the fourth inning to give Cornerstone a 3-0 lead. Tahni Bruno picked up a couple of RBI's in the fifth inning to increase the lead to 5-0. The Golden Eagles used some more small ball to increase their lead in the top of the sixth. Rachel Bode, Alexsandra Szanja, and Tahni Bruno hit RBI singles and Lauren Pasciak reached on an error to bring in the last run to make it 9-0. Rachel Nelson picked up the win from the circle to improve to 4-1 on the season and Cornerstone returns home from Florida with a 10-2 record.
The Golden Eagles return home tomorrow and are scheduled to host Lake Superior State next Saturday at 2:00.
