In Auburndale, Fla. today, the Cornerstone University baseball team lost 8-1 to St. Francis University of Illinois. Cullen Montgomery was saddled with a tough loss after going five innings and giving up two runs, one earned. Montgomery, in his first outing of the year, gave up one hit, three walks and struck out six.
Justin Geerts came on to relieve Montgomery in the 6th inning. Geerts also pitched well. He went four innings in which he gave up six runs, two earned and struck out two while walking three.
The Golden Eagles defense struggled throughout the course of the afternoon committing eight errors in the game.
Zack Meyer led the Cornerstone offense with two hits in three at bats. Zach Bohl was on base twice and Zach Harbison scorched a double and later scored the lone Cornerstone run.
The loss moves Cornerstone to 1-7 on the season. The spring trip will continue tomorrow in Winter Haven, Fla. with games against Clarke University and Point Park University.
