In the second game of a double header, the Cornerstone University baseball team earned its first win of the season over Evangel University 6-5.
David Mitroff started the game on the mound for the Golden Eagles and went 4.2 innings only giving up two hits. Walks proved to be his undoing as four of his five walks scored. Mitroff allowed four earned runs and struck out four batters.
Ryan Harris came on in relief of Mitroff and pitched on-third of an inning to pick up the win. Harris is 1-0 on the Season.
Jon Knapp pitched the 6th and 7th innings to earn his first save.
Cornerstone broke the game open in the 5th inning by scoring five runs. The big blow came off of the bat of Zach Harbison who belted a bases loaded double off of the left field fence. Harbison was 1-3 with four RBI and one run scored. Adam Brooks went 3-3 and scored two runs. Nick Covello also added two hits for the Golden Eagles.
Cornerstone is now 1-6 on the season and will continue its spring trip on Wednesday with a game against St. Francis University.
