(Clermont, Fla.) The Golden Eagles started their 2013 campaign against Ave Maria University from Florida. Ave Maria entered the game with a 7-6 record while the Golden Eagles were outside for the first time of the season. Cornerstone started out a little slow which is kind of expected for their first time outside. Ave Maria scored an unearned run in the 3rd and Cornerstone scored an unearned run in the 4th inning to tie the score at 1-1. Ave Maria broke the game open with three runs in the 6th and two runs in the 7th to defeat Cornerstone 6-1 in the first game of the day.
The Golden Eagles started out much better in the second game of the day against Southeastern University of Fl. Cornerstone scored two runs on one hit in the 1st, three runs on four hits in the 2nd, and two runs on four hits in the top of the 3rd inning to go up 7-0. Southeastern responded with three runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning to make it 7-3. Cornerstone added a run in the top of the 4th and Southeastern scored two in the bottom half of the inning to make it 8-5 after four innings. Cornerstone scored one in the 6th and Southeastern added one in the bottom of the 7th for a 9-6 Cornerstone win. Jenna Weightman went 2 for 4 with 3 RBI's and a run scored and Heidi Warmelink went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI's and 2 runs scored to lead the Golden Eagles attack. Rachel Nelson picked up the win from the circle.
Cornerstone will return to action tomorrow when they take on Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) and Lourdes (Ohio).
