In the first game of a double header in Auburndale, Fla., the Cornerstone University Baseball team lost a nail biter 4-3 to Olivet Nazarene University.
Cornerstone scored three runs on three hits while making four errors. Olivet had four runs on five hits with two errors in the field.
Brandon Willard got the start on the mound for the Golden Eagles and pitched extremely well. In 5.1 innings, Willard gave up four runs, only one of which was earned. He allowed five hits and worked around four walks while striking out four on the afternoon. He was tagged with his first loss of the season to bring his record to 0-1.
Justin Geerts came on in relief of Willard and did not give up a run or a hit in an inning and two thirds of work. He walked one and struck out one. Geerts made a big impact with his ability to pitch out of a jam by inducing a ground out and getting a strikeout when arriving in the 6th inning.
Geren Albury was 1-3 with a run and an RBI for the Golden Eagles and Ryan Harris was 1-1 with a stolen base as a pinch hitter.
The loss moves Cornerstone to 0-4 on the season.
