(Bourbonnais, Ill.) The Golden
Eagles opened their 2009 campaign on the road at defending National Christian
College Tournament Champs Olivet Nazarene (IL) today. The young Golden
Eagles fell 1-0 in a very hard fought game. Cornerstone played very well
in the first half and had the better of the scoring opportunities. Junior
Ashley Morrow returned to action for the first time in about 10 days and hit
the crossbar in the 3rd minute of play. The Golden Eagles had a couple of
quality chances in the first half but couldn't find the back of the net.
The second half proved to be a different story as the Golden Eagles couldn't
really maintain possession of the ball and the Tigers pinned Cornerstone in its
own half for most of the period. Olivet Nazarene finally got on the
scoreboard in the 75th minute on a through ball to their top finisher who made
the most of her opportunity. Cornerstone drops to 0-1 and will return to
action on Tuesday when they host Hope College at 4:00 p.m.
