KEY TEAM STATS
The No. 17th ranked Madonna University Crusaders came into town to face the Golden Eagles for a Thursday night contest. Freshman Omari Lewis recorded his first double-double of the season and his career. Lewis grabbed 10 rebounds while tallying 10 points. The Golden Eagles were able to force Madonna into 19 turnovers but could not respond to Madonna's strong offensive second half 56.3% shooting.
Madonna held the lead during the first 13 minutes of play until Ty Mason hit a two point jumper to even the score at 15 apiece. Madonna's biggest lead in the first half came with four minutes before the break but after an old fashion three point play, Wes Hudson helped the Golden Eagles go into halftime down by one, 32-31. Highlighting the first half was Lewis' 10 points and seven rebounds.
In the second half, the Golden Eagles were able to come from behind and even the score, 46-46, with 13 minutes remaining in the contest. Madonna answered by hitting lights out and going on a 11-0 run. Cornerstone was unable to answer the hot streak and found themselves down by 21 with just two minutes remaining. The Golden Eagles were able to cut the lead but unable to take the victory, falling to No. 17 Madonna.
After the loss, Cornerstone drops to 15-10 overall and 9-8 during conference play as they welcome University of Michigan-Dearborn on Saturday afternoon. The Men's Basketball team will also welcome back their alumni for Saturday's contest.
The Golden Eagles welcome UM-Dearborn on Saturday with game set for 5 p.m.
