The Cornerstone women's basketball team hosted conference foe, Siena Heights on Wednesday night following the men's game. The women looked to repeat a win after the men defeated Siena Heights, 88-60. However, the game did not go as planned as the Siena Heights women's basketball team topped Cornerstone, 53-46. After the night, Cornerstone drops to 4-4 overall and 1-2 during league play. Siena Heights improves to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the WHAC.
During the first half, the two teams battled for a consistent lead. The two teams found themselves with five ties and nine lead changes during the first half of play. Cornerstone took a three point lead after Katelyn Cousins knocked down a pair of free throws with 13:02 remaining. However the Saints quickly chipped away at the lead and found themselves ahead by four points, 19-15, with 6:47 to play in the half. Cornerstone was able to even the score three more times before the half came to a close. Siena Heights headed into the locker room with a 29-27 lead.
Siena Heights controlled most of the play in the second half. However Cornerstone, ahead by one, 37-36, after a Robyn Veltkamp two point shot in the paint. Siena Heights refused to give up and played tough defense while double-teaming the Cornerstone post players. The Saints then grabbed an eight point lead with 5:05 remaining and rolled to a 53-46 road win.
The Golden Eagles will travel to Detroit on Saturday to play conference newcomer, Marygrove College. Tip off scheduled for 1 p.m.
