The Golden Eagles shot 53.2% from the field for the night compared to the Saints shooting at 41.7% for the night. After a 12-0 run in the first half, Cornerstone maintained the lead riding to their second WHAC win of the season.
The Cornerstone men's basketball team welcomed conference foe, Siena Heights on Wednesday night. After a 12-0 run with 10 minutes remaining in the first half, Cornerstone rolled to a 88-60 win. With the victory, Cornerstone improves to 5-2 overall and 2-1 during league play while giving Siena Heights their first conference loss of the season. After the loss, the Saints drop to 2-5 overall and 2-1 in the conference.
In the first half, both teams battled back and forth in the first nine minutes of play. During those nine minutes there were five ties but only two lead changes. With 10:56 on the clock, Cornerstone went on a 12-0 run to take the 25-16 lead. The Golden Eagles would maintain strong play till half time, finding themselves ahead 44-30 heading into the locker room. Ty Mason led the Golden Eagles at the half with 13 points hitting three for three from behind the arc. As a team, Cornerstone shot 51.5% from the field and 63.6 % behind the three point line in the first half. Cornerstone continued through the second half playing strong defense and shooting well with their biggest lead of the night of 33 points 80-47 after a pair of free throws made by DeOndra Callahan with six minutes remaining. The Saints were able to chip away at the Golden Eagles lead; however, the final score in favor of Cornerstone, 88-60.
The Golden Eagles will travel to Detroit on Saturday to play conference newcomer, Marygrove College. Tip off scheduled for 3 p.m.
