The Golden Eagles shot 40% (22-55) from the field during the game which included 1-8 from long range.
The Golden Eagles women's basketball team traveled to Spring Arbor on Friday night for their fourth game of the season. Cornerstone notched their third win of the 2012-2013 season edging the Cougars of Spring Arbor, 60-51. The Golden Eagles were led by red-shirt senior Robyn Veltkamp's 23 points and six assists.
The first half went back and forth with three ties in the first half and the biggest lead was held by Spring Arbor with seven points. The Golden Eagles found themselves down by seven, 25-18, after a three point made by Spring Arbor's April Adams with 4:49 to play in the first half. However, the Golden Eagles switched to a zone defense and closed in on the lead with a 6-0 run to close out the first half. Cornerstone went into halftime finding themselves down, 25-24.
Once again, Spring Arbor came out strong to start the first half and led by six points, 32-26, with 15:34 to play in the game. The Golden Eagles took the lead from a Robyn Veltkamp two point jumper with the assist coming from Janae Trombley during the ninth minute of the second half. Cornerstone increased the lead by 14 points, 53-39, when Jill Hendrickson made one of two free throws. The Golden Eagles played strong defense to finish the game and rode their way to a 61-50 win. With the win, Cornerstone improves to 3-1 and gives Spring Arbor (2-1) their first loss of the season.
The Golden Eagles will continue on the road when they travel to Marion, Ind., on Tuesday to face Indiana Wesleyan with the match time set for 7 p.m.
