The Cornerstone women's soccer team returns to action on Wednesday when they travel to WHAC leader, Davenport. Head coach Randy Stawser and the Golden Eagles are currently 13-2 overall and 5-1 in the WHAC. Since starting 0-1 in the conference, Cornerstone has been on a five-game winning streak during league play. With conference winding down, the women's soccer team is currently tied for second place with Indiana Tech in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference.
The Golden Eagles enter Wednesday coming off a strong outing against Marygrove on Saturday. During senior night, Cornerstone came out strong scoring three goals in the first six minutes of play. Senior Riley Steen scored her fifth goal of the season just two minutes into the game while Senior Kelley Ritsema and Junior Maile Carigon notched goals to start the half. Carigon notched another goal early in the second half.
After the 4-0 victory, the squad is eager to continue their winning streak and earn a share of the top spot in the WHAC with Davenport and Indiana Tech.
Cornerstone and Davenport met earlier in the season when the Golden Eagles played host to the Panthers. During the match, Amanda Van Laar connected on two penalty kicks while Kerri Hoffman notched in a goal as well. With the three goals, Cornerstone was victorious over Davenport, 3-1. On Wednesday night, Davenport will be eager for a rematch.
Davenport enters Wednesday afternoon with a 14-2 overall record while holding a 7-0 record in league play. Davenport is coming off a 2-1 win over Madonna University. With the win, the Panthers clinch a share of the WHAC regular season championship. Letesha Cannonier dished out an assist while Alyssa Malone notched the lone goal for the day with the other Panther goal coming off an own goal from Madonna's goalkeeper.
